The New Augustine is better than ever. This course opened to many accolades in the 1990s and was considered one of the best public courses in the state for many years before falling on hard times. The new owners closed the course for months to restore it to its prior condition as one of the most beautiful and natural golf courses you will ever play. Instead of being restored to its prior condition, Augustine now exceeds its prior glory.
"Set amid the foothills of historic Bull Run Mountain in Haymarket, Va., Bull Run Golf Club is surpassed only by the beauty that surrounds the course." - Golfguideinc.com. Brought back to glory in 2011, Bull Run is a scenic course that meanders through acres and acres of undeveloped scenic meadows, ponds and woodlands. Where the typical course covers an area of 120 to 130 acres, Bull Run stretches across more than 450.
Located in Woodbridge, Virginia, Old Hickory Golf Club is a Premier Upscale Golf Course, designed to fit its site with great precision. The architect, Tim Freeland, who previously worked for the design firm of golf legend Gary Player, was part of the team who designed Raspberry Falls Golf & Hunt Club, sister course to Old Hickory. This course is a must play for the area.
Raspberry Falls holds the distinction of being Virginia's only Gary Player Signature Design and rambles through Raspberry Plain, an 18th century plantation. "This site was made for a golf course," says Player, who incorporated the rolling terrain, native hardwoods, meandering streams, natural rock outcroppings and spectacular vistas. The most dramatic feature is the Scottish style stacked-sod bunkers inspired by the great links courses of the British Isles.
Near hallowed ground where Union and Confederate soldiers marched and camped during the defining battle of America's Civil War, a supreme challenge of golf has been waged at The Links At Gettysburg - "Golf's Gettysburg address" - since the first shots were fired in 1999. Accolades from professional and amateur golfers pour in about the magnificent architecture by Steve Klein & Lindsay Ervin, superior playing conditions maintained by Superintendent John Long and the signature service that distinguishes The Links, a "4 1/2 Star" rated facility by Golf Digest and a "Must-Play" by Golfstyles. The golf at the Links At Gettysburg is truly spectacular, with water on almost every hole, elevated tee shots to greens fronting red rock cliffs; blind doglegs and undulating greens making the putting difficult even after you've managed to escape the hazards. Striving to shoot par at The Links is a supreme challenge and a rewarding experience every golfer should have.
